BABY, SHE DOESN'T NEED A DRINK. SHE NEEDS TO KNOW YOU CAN HANDLE YOURS. 🥂😘
A gentleman recently asked a woman (I'm the Woman) a question that was actually rather sweet. He wanted to know if she would mind him having a drink with dinner since she doesn't drink.
Her answer? Of course not, Papi. She's sober, not the alcohol police. 😉💋
But there is something men need to understand about women, especially if they want the privilege of taking one out.
She doesn't need you to be sober because she is. She needs you to be responsible because you're a man who wants her to feel safe in your presence.
There is a beautiful difference.
A woman in recovery takes her sobriety seriously. She doesn't expect the world to stop drinking because she made the decision to stop. Your relationship with alcohol is yours, and hers is hers.
However, if you're having dinner together, enjoying beautiful conversation, laughing, flirting, and perhaps getting a little lost in each other's eyes, she wants to know that the man sitting across from her is still fully present.
Have your glass of wine. Enjoy your cocktail. Savor your dinner. But understand that she's paying attention to something far more intoxicating than whatever is in your glass.
She's paying attention to how safe she feels with you.
And darling, safety is incredibly sexy. 😘
She wants to know that you've eaten, that you're aware of how much you've consumed, that your judgment is intact, and that you are absolutely capable of getting you both home safely. If you've had too much to drive, neither of you should get behind the wheel. Arrange another ride.
Could she drive? Absolutely. She's perfectly capable of taking care of herself. She's probably been doing that for a very long time.
But capable doesn't mean she always wants to be the one in charge.
And this is where feminine energy comes into the conversation.
She's a strong, independent, accomplished woman. She may run businesses, make decisions, solve problems, and carry responsibilities every single day. She knows how to lead. She knows how to protect herself. She knows how to take charge when life requires it.
But when she's spending an evening with a masculine, emotionally mature man, she doesn't want another responsibility.
She wants to put her shoulders down.
She wants to laugh until her cheeks hurt. She wants to be playful, affectionate, a little mischievous, and completely present. She wants to enjoy the beautiful experience of being a woman in the company of a man who knows how to lead with confidence, tenderness, and consideration.
She wants to feel like your date, not your designated babysitter. 😂💋
Because if she's watching how many drinks you're ordering, wondering whether you're becoming intoxicated, monitoring your behavior, or worrying about how you're getting home, guess what, handsome?
You've just put her back in charge.
And suddenly, the woman who wanted to relax into her feminine energy is managing another grown adult.
That isn't romance. That's work.
And she didn't get dressed up, put on her perfume, and slip into something pretty to clock in for another shift. 😉
MASCULINITY IS NOT ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU CAN DRINK. IT'S ABOUT HOW WELL YOU CAN LEAD YOURSELF.
A mature masculine man understands that protecting a woman begins with protecting his own judgment.
He doesn't need to announce that he's a protector. He demonstrates it through his choices, his awareness, his emotional regulation, and his ability to remain responsible even while enjoying himself.
He understands that leadership isn't dominance. It's consideration. It is being attentive without being controlling, confident without being arrogant, and protective without making a woman feel powerless.
And yes, many women love that old-fashioned feeling of being with a man who makes them feel like they have their very own bodyguard. Not because they're helpless, but because he genuinely enjoys making sure they're okay.
There's something wonderfully feminine about looking across the table and knowing, I don't have to manage everything tonight. He's got this.
And gentlemen, you might be surprised how much softer, warmer, more playful, and affectionate a woman can become when she feels genuinely safe.
BUT HERE'S SOMETHING ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT A WOMAN IN RECOVERY.
She's sober.
And recovery has taught her to listen, observe, and recognize patterns.
She may understand the difference between someone enjoying a drink and someone whose drinking may be becoming a problem. She may recognize the signs of impaired judgment, changes in behavior, defensiveness, and the inability to stop when enough is enough.
That doesn't mean she can diagnose someone's relationship with alcohol over dinner, and she certainly doesn't intend to try.
But she will pay attention.
Not because she's judging you.
Because she's worked too hard for her peace, her healing, and her sobriety to ignore what her experience has taught her.
Her sobriety doesn't make her superior to anyone who drinks. It simply makes her responsible for the environments and relationships she chooses.
And she has absolutely no desire to become someone's monitor, mother, counselor, or rescuer while dating.
She's probably done enough rescuing in her lifetime, thank you very much. 😉
She wants a partner, not a project.
And this is something fascinating about dating. Mature men who naturally understand responsibility, restraint, and consideration often don't need this conversation. They simply live it.
Yet it's continually surprising how many people confuse masculine leadership with being loud, dominant, demanding, or in control of everyone around them.
True masculine confidence doesn't need to prove itself.
It is steady. It is intentional. It is emotionally intelligent. It knows when to have fun and when to exercise restraint.
And perhaps most importantly, it understands that a woman's trust is something to cherish, not something to test.
So, gentlemen, please don't misunderstand.
She's not asking you to stop enjoying life because she doesn't drink.
She's inviting you to understand what makes her feel safe enough to enjoy life alongside you.
She wants to dance, laugh, flirt, be silly, share beautiful conversations, and enjoy the delicious chemistry between a feminine woman and a masculine man.
She wants to know that while she's enjoying the evening, you're enjoying it too, without either of you having to worry about your ability to make responsible decisions.
And gentlemen, when a woman feels safe, respected, cherished, and protected, you may get to experience a side of her that responsibility and survival don't always leave room for.
Her softness.
Her playfulness.
Her tenderness.
Her affection.
And perhaps a little trouble, too. The fun kind, of course. 😉💋
SO HERE'S THE FINAL THOUGHT, HANDSOME.
Have your drink. Enjoy yourself. Be a gentleman.
But remember, a woman doesn't need you to protect her from the world while creating another situation she has to protect herself from.
She wants a man who can enjoy himself without losing himself.
A man who understands that the most masculine thing he can bring to an evening isn't his strength, his money, or his ability to command a room.
It's his ability to make her feel safe enough to stop commanding one.
Because, darling, she can take care of herself.
But there's something irresistible about a man who makes her feel like she doesn't have to do it all alone. ❤️
And if she has to babysit you on your first date?
Well, sweetheart, there probably won't be a second one. 😘
With love, laughter, a little sass, and a whole lot of sobriety,
Michelle Ann 🌹
